Which Sandals Resort is the newest is a matter of interpretation of the word new. They have several resorts that could qualify as their newest. Some are newly acquired, some are newly renovated, and Sandals Whitehouse is their newest resort that was a new construction. Read below for the details on several of their newest resorts.
Sandals Barbados – Opened November 6, 2013
Sandals acquired and will re-open the 10-acre former Couples property as Sandals Barbados on November 6th 2013 and will honor all existing commitments with guests who had booked to stay at the Couples Resort. Stewart commented:
“We are delighted to announce the opening of, not one, but two of our first ever resorts in this wonderful country of Barbados. Barbados and its people are so rich in culture, charm and personality and has been one of the leaders in Caribbean tourism for decades. We have been in discussions to bring our award-winning brands to this country for some time and are thrilled that negotiations have now been successfully concluded.”
Upon opening as Sandals Barbados, the resort will offer a selection of 280 luxury accommodations that range from beachfront suites to exquisite rooms situated in the resort’s lush tropical garden. Expect the resort to continue to go through some transformation as it transitions to a Sandals property. Sandals will open five new restaurants at the Barbados resort, which the company acquired from Barbados’ government in October, including an Indian restaurant and a French café.
Sandals La Source Grenada – Opens December 12, 2013
The resort will have 231 rooms, an addition of 131 to the 100 rooms Sandals inherited when it acquired the LaSource Resort in November. Sandals is investing $100 million to renovate, expand, enhance and convert the former LaSource resort into what Sandals CEO Adam Stewart has described as a “game changer in the Caribbean.” The images on the Sandals site are simply stunning.
In the words of Sandals CEO Adam Stewart:
“Grenada will be something the world has never seen in Caribbean tourism. It will blow your mind.”
Sandals Emerald Bay
Sandals Emerald Bay Bahamas was purchased by Sandals Resorts in 2009 – it was formally the Four Seasons. When did Sandals Emerald Bay open for business? – January 2010. The original Four Seasons resort opened in 2003, so the resort was already in great condition when it was purchased. Sandals installed an entirely new pool and pool area and added 2 restaurants.

Here is some more information from Sandals’ about one of their newest resorts:
“This is a remarkable moment in the history of Sandals Resorts,” Stewart said. “We are acquiring one of the most spectacular pieces of real estate in the Caribbean, which was operated by one of the world’s most highly regarded hotel companies. This is a reflection of all that Sandals Resorts has accomplished and a tremendous opportunity to further demonstrate our commitment to providing the very best vacation in the Caribbean. We look forward to bringing our Luxury Included® experience to this special property, which has been kept to impeccable standards.”
This will be the first ever Sandals Resort to include a fully-protected stand-alone Marina. The Emerald Bay Marina by Sandals offers 133 slips and is equipped to accommodate and service yachts up to 300 feet in length. Open to the public, the marina also features a welcoming clubhouse with a full-service restaurant including al fresco dining on a spectacular wraparound terrace, pool, a world-class Red Lane® Spa.
UPDATE: Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas marked its first anniversary in style with the completion of a million-dollar renovation project to its renowned Greg Norman-designed golf course; upgrades to the resort’s gourmet dining options; and the addition of 62 luxurious rooms and suites.
Sandals Whitehouse opened in 2005 as the first newly constructed Sandals Resort. In October 2010 Sandals further upgraded the resort – “Sandals Resorts International (SRI) is marking the fifth anniversary of the opening of Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa by unveiling a US $10 million facelift and offering guests the opportunity to explore Jamaica’s undiscovered South Coast – all in time for the winter season.”
Other “New” Sandals Resorts
Sandals Grande Riviera just received extensive updates and upgrades.
Sandals recently added Sandals Royal Plantation to their lineup of resorts. It is the only all suite all butler resort in the chain. Though it is new to the Sandals Resort, the resort itself is not new.
